Art Basel Warmup
November 10, 2016
The global art scene will once again descend upon Miami the first weekend of December with the arrival of this year’s Art Basel. The world-renowned art festival will bring 269 leading galleries from around the globe to the Miami Beach Convention Center, where they will display their latest and most significant work from more than 4,000 artists. Exhibitions will include paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, films, and performances from masters of modern and contemporary art. The festival is a perennial favorite among cutting edge artists, wealthy collectors, celebrities, and socialites, and so far we haven’t seen any evidence that this edition will be any different.
At Art Basel Miami Beach, the 500,000 square-feet of exhibition space at the Convention Center will be divided into nine sectors with the Galleries sector serving as the centerpiece. “Art Basel” traditionally refers to the fair held at the Miami Beach Convention Center, but the spirit of Art Basel will be represented in venues throughout the city who host satellite fairs and other events.
While Art Basel Miami Beach opens to the public on Thursday, Dec. 1 and runs through Sunday, Dec. 4, the social calendar and satellite fair openings start earlier in the week. This time is collectively known as Miami Art Week.
